Welcome to Dirt Road History

People come and go, but the paths they took and things they did remain behind. Some marks they left are tangible. Houses, bridges, roads, documents. But often, their stories are unexplored.

“Historians” have largely ignored the rural Midwest as either unknowable or insignificant. That’s ok. True to our roots, we’d rather do our own record keeping and tell our own stories. They don’t know our names, and they’ve never driven these roads. They wouldn’t tell it right anyway.

“Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt.” John Muir
